music never looked this good

Because it's a Monday and my brain's still hungover from the weekend...

When my vanity needs a kicking, i tune in to Channel [V]. Because music never looked this good.

The channel gave us Asha Gill (Discovery Travel and Living's Lonely Planet 6 Degrees) , Joey Mead, Vivien Tan, Trey Farley (NGC's Chasing Time). Early on it had Nonie Tan, and other refugees from the MTV Asia disaster. The only VJ that rivals in good looks is MTV's Nadya, and she's like the peak in the MTV looks hierarchy. Okay, yeah, MTV used to have Danny McGill, but even his looks are up for debate.

Darn it.

I love Channel V. It used to be a tighter race between V and MTV, back when MTV actually played music videos. Then MTV limited Alternative Nation to once a week (!), which at the time was already blasphemy as it was, as V had three (count them: 3) rock programs. Then MTV created MTV Philippines, and it was just... well, at the time it was great. Now it just blows.

And the VJs. Oh my God. No matter what, Channel V always had better vjs. Nothing against Mike Kasem, but jeez. Trey was way cooler. And Channel V's people had no qualms about declaring distaste for Hanson, silverchair, even Oasis.

"It's a rubbish goodie bag, because we've taken all the good stuff." - Asha, on a boyband-filled giveaway.

Ahh, Asha. I miss you so. The bitch who used words like "Miss Plastic Fantastic" to introduce a Cher video, who called Britney Spears "inflate-'em-ups".

And now? Okay, Paula's not that great, and Joey G could use some personality (but isn't he still better than Brad?), but they're all still better than anyone over at MTV.

And is MTV even still playing videos? I know there's a lot of Pinoy bands out there (please excuse me while I barf at the thought of Hale) but please.

On a related note, I miss the early days of MYX. I mean the really early days of Myx. Like when they just started. Ed, Jon. Even Clara, and the other girl. The first time I saw a collection of 4AD videos in succession (4AD would be a music label, one that owns The Pixies, The Breeders, Belly and similar groups) was on Myx.

Which reminds me: remember Kulay? The group that introduced technicolor to local music videos? I remembered how they kept losing to other bands in competing for Best Pinoy music video, and while theirs is in technicolor, they'd keep losing to people who had videos shot in some bahay-kubo. My cousin once noted that for Kulay's next video, they too would have it in a kubo. Heehee. Of course, Kulay then broke up.

Anyway.

I adore Amy Poehler. I remember her on Conan as Andy's little sister with a mad crush on Conan, and now she's the co-anchor on Weekend Update. And did I mention she's married to Will Arnett (Arrested Development). With Tina Fey on maternity leave, I hope Amy and Rachel Dratch make their presence count.

Speaking of pretty people: On Jay Leno last Saturday it was Paul Walker, Jamie Pressly and Constantine. My IQ went down ten points just watching the program.

"You're watching the wrong channel." - Asha, Vivien and Adrian (to a caller who answered Channel V was her 'most wanted music channel' -- MTV's slogan at the time)

I've also always liked Channel V over MTV, though I did watch the latter too much before. I also liked Kamal Sidhu over there. I think I have a beef against Asha because she dissed Carlos Ponce and consistently mispronounced his name. But OMG, Trey and Adrien rule! Paula and that Aussie guy John blow though. I've seen enough of Amanda, and Sarah (Channel V) has the personality of cardboard.I heard from another Hala-adoring friend that Amy's quitting SNL soon to focus on her movie career, is that true? And I taped every single one of Stacy Richter's appearances. =)
