What can I say about The Corpse Bride that hasn't been said before/won't be said ad nauseam?
It's so brilliant I pitied my own lackluster imagination. Tim Burton may be offbeat, and has a spotty record with movies (he's either outstandingly brilliant, or his brilliance is misdirected). But, oh, The Corpse Bride belongs to the former.
Last night, Goodyear and I went to see it, and, Glorietta 4, please fix the tarp of the movie. Emily's on the right side. If you didn't notice, that's the moon behind them.
Anyway.
It is absolutely a film about wit charm and strife.
Except, of course, Goodyear had to ruin our pleasant viewing experience by noting that Helena Bonham Carter is the only genuine Brit in the cast. Oh, Goodyear. You're my friend, but you need to brush up on your actors. Sure, Tracey Ullman's an adopted American, but Christopher Lee (Count Dooku!). Joanna Lumley (Ab Fab!). Emily Watson, Jane Horrocks, Richard E. Grant! Goodyear, seriously. Do not mess with a movie geek. You will only lose.
Tim Burton, I now forgive you for Planet of the Apes.
Oh, Johnny Depp. You're a mere voice here, but how far you've come since 21 Jumpstreet. Makes me wonder why you weren't in Big Fish.
So I guess that makes Helena Bonham Carter Tim Burton's go-to actress. Hey, Tim Burton: what, Christina Ricci was busy? ... Thank heavens.
"Maybe he does belong with her. (Scoff) Little Miss Living."
- Emily (the corpse bride), on Victor and Victoria.
yes, i know. i spoiled a humor point by naming the couple. so what. you're gonna see it anyway.
