bursting with

When I first heard of Glee, from the creator of Nip/Tuck, I recall I met it with equal parts trepidation and excitement. Because I don't have the attention span for Nip/Tuck, but I do love Popular, which is also from Ryan Murphy.

Oh yes, how much I loved Popular.

I saw the pilot episode, and decided, fine. Anything that gets a commitment from Jane Lynch is worth the trouble, and any show that dares to have someone say "I don't do backup. I'm Beyonce, I ain't no Kelly Rowland" is something I would want to watch.

And I read the NYmag feature on Lea Michele, and I decided, that if she's on Spring Awakening, she can't be all bad, despite the general character sketch of her role. (Though I do enjoy seeing the Slurpee attacks. Who knew Slurpee could be so destructive?)

And then... they cast Kristin Chenoweth for a guest role.

I have, of course, covered previously my love for the pint-sized awesomeness that is Kristin Chenoweth, mostly for her work on Pushing Daisies. I didn't even know what her role would be, but considering she's shown the entire gamut of emotions on Pushing Daisies, it didn't really matter. Because she shows up on Glee, and that, people, is how you own a guest starring role.

The Rhodes Not Taken is a perfect example of Ryan Murphy's genius: the absurd mixing with the typical high school knowing-is-half-the-battle lessons. (And, yes, Finn so had that slap coming to him.) Kristin Chenoweth as a high school student? Sure, why not. As a boozy alcoholic struggling to be good? Um... we've seen that with Amy Sedaris on Strangers With Candy, but why not. But when it came to song and dance, Kristin owns Lea Michele (on Maybe This Time), and everyone else in the cast.

I suppose it's might as well that she didn't share any scenes with Jane Lynch, because that would probably just make everyone's television sets explode.

Now, producers, the woman just won an Emmy for Pushing Daisies, and has already pitched for roles on shows. She and Glee are a perfect fit, but it's Fox, and they're famous for killing shows even when it's well-loved.

I just want Kristin to keep showing up on my television screen and singing.

ETA: Are those the dance steps to Madonna's Don't Tell Me video being used for the Last Name performance? Because: awesome.
