As a general rule, I don't like it when songs I like are covered by other people. It is one thing when a song or group comes up with a cover version of a song I've never heard of (i.e., Ani DiFranco singing Dusty Springfield's Wishin' And Hopin'), but if I loved the original first, cover versions are in for a lot of criticism.
(Yes, I heard the cover before I discovered Dusty Springfield. It was on the soundtrack to My Best Friend's Wedding, OK?)
So you understand my severe loathing of Boyzone (also solo Ronan) and their endless covers.
Yes, not even my beloved Corrs were spared this skepticism when they covered Dreams (even if Mick Fleetwood gave his blessing).
There are some covers, though, that merit my respect. Nirvana's take on The Man Who Sold the World. Hole's Gold Dust Woman. Alanis's take on Crazy. Even Gym Class Heroes' Good Vibrations.
And I did watch Rock Star:INXS, and there were some pretty cool performances there.
But still, there are gag-worthy weirdness, like Ronan (dude, I'm sorry, but you know it's true) doing a cover of Goo Goo Dolls' Iris. Dude that's just wrong. And that's on top of how the song has worn out my patience.
So this is an example of how you cover a song:
And, of course, there's also this:

How true is it that E-Head's song With A Smile is a remake? My mother is claiming thus and I told her the contrary.
