I make it a point to watch epic movies in theaters. Star Wars. Star Trek. Spider-Man. X-Men. Even when the movie doesn't get very positive reviews, if it warrants the cinematic experience, I will gladly give Ayala or Shang or even SM my money to get it.
But, gods. Remember my lackluster reaction to Transformers? Turns out I should've seen Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen first. Suddenly I lovelovelove the first one.
Inferno liked this one more than the first, though I can't fathom why, because it just felt like Michael Bay kept on thinking, "I want the robots to do this! and fight this! Make this explode! Make this 'epic' shot!" and then made up a convoluted plotline to make it so.
But, ooh, the Constructicons, and Devastator:

Revenge of the Fallen is built to be the quintessential Michael Bay drinking game: hero shot, check. Hero lineup, check. Guns, check. Exploding things, check. Horizon shot, check.
Ugh.
The weird thing is, at least with the first movie I never got bored. It was not quite my cup of tea, but it was a big summer movie, and it made it worthwhile. Some of the Michael Bay movies I've watched were endless action sequences, but it never made me bored.
You're borrowing from enough (good) epic sources already. Please learn the good things.
By the way, how is it possible to get bored watching giant alien robots? I know, it confounds me too.
And given the $390M first weekend gross of this movie, clearly you're not supposed to care.
But, gosh, I already left my good taste and thinking processes at the door when I watched this. And I still got bored. It couldn't even warrant wry (silent, mental) commentary, or even the hapless giggles of bad storytelling. No. It was just...
I remember the emotional gut-wrenching reaction to a certain robot death in the animated movie. This time, it was like, I couldn't even muster a reaction. You don't even get to care about any of the characters. Even the humans. In the animated movie, you cared about the fate of the Autobots.
"And yet I just can't bring myself to care."

...And I still haven't forgiven you for killing Jazz.
But Crack makes a point.
