Sure, I'm one of the losers who watched Iron Man on the second weekend, but the important thing is that I got around to it, right? Right?
And after watching it, I am so glad Kevin Smith is not an Iron Man fan.
Well, we all knew Robert Downey Jr. was cool, but when did he become so hot? When did watching RDJ and those lovely arms and shoulders for two hours become so worthwhile? Because while I have always believed RDJ in a suit is wonderful (and at his preppiest best in Ally McBeal), rugged RDJ just made the lust list.
pause.
Sidebar: I'm sorry, I have been having "what would NPH do" impulses, and RDJ just saves me the trouble of looking for Robert Downey Jr.'s nickname. Stupid How I Met Your Mother DVD marathon. By the way, why do I have a feeling NPH will be the best thing in the Harold and Kumar sequel?
un-pause.
And say what you will about some of RDJ's roles (Gothika? Really?), but you can't deny that some of them are mighty interesting (I present Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). And he is always so damn watchable.
RDJ aside (like that's even possible), Iron Man is well worth the price of the ticket, it certainly has lived up to the hype, and I heart Marvel Studios. I mean, it features Paul Bettany's voice! Come on! The Stan Lee cameo is nice in its pay-attention-fool quickness, and as I told Speedbump, any movie that has a Samuel L. Jackson cameo can't be all that bad. (On that last part: if you don't know what I'm talking about, watch the movie again. And again. And again. Even if you do know what I'm referring to. You know you want to. I know I do.)
And, you know, as someone with residual ill feelings for Gwyneth Paltrow (she so stole the Academy Award from Cate Blanchett in 1996), I begrudgingly admit her Pepper Potts does not make you wince and turn away when she is on screen. She is not quite a heroine, but she is definitely not a damsel in distress. She is also quite watchable, actually. Surprisingly.
Jon Favreau. Hey. Thank you for letting RDJ loose with the script. Sometimes genius just writes itself, you know?
We all knew RDJ had talent. We all knew he was good-looking. But, hot damn. A superhero movie? RDJ rules.
And who can't love a guy who takes a look at his action figure and point out that it looks a little less like him and more Scott Baio? And on another angle, a little more Gabriel Byrne? I heart RDJ.
So, what's next, Marvel Studios? The Incredible Hulk? Captain America? If you're going to figure out The Avengers to assemble for a movie, please pick Hawkeye. Because I love Hawkeye. In one comic book version, Hawkeye was hot. He made archery sexy way before Peter Jackson brought Legolas into the mainstream.
Please please please let The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton not suck.
Vince: Who's directing?
Ari: Michael Bay.
Vince: What? At least the screenwriter's going to be---
Ari: Kevin Smith.
Vince: They're just rushing the sequel, aren't they?

In my defense I was with my mom. And she doesn't stay for the credits. And since no one told me about the SLJ appearance, I had no reason to stick around when the credits rolled.
And yes, I had some reservations with RDJ doing a superhero movie. I never pictured him as ever going that route and to be honest I thought that I would lose respect for him when I finished watching him in this movie. I'm glad to be proven wrong. I left the cinema not thinking that he sold out. I felt more like he took the gig so that it won't go to some schmuck who'll ruin it.
Unexpected loves about the movie:
1. Paul B's voice.
2. Gwyneth's shoes.
3. The constant dig at S.H.I.E.L.D.S oh so very long name.
Don't worry. Everyone seems to call him RDJ too on teh Internets. Just as every female on the planet (which, yes, he owns) loves him.
