Meeting 'Pot'

When the subject of my job is brought up, it is usually met with two reactions: shock, and total laughter.

Granted, I was not Miss Personality at school. If anything I was Miss Anti Social, that's how much I disdained the general populace.

But the thing is, I actually like my job. I like meeting total strangers (guys, stop laughing) and asking them personal questions that I know they will answer because they have to. Because they believe they can trust me. Because I am the company psychologist. I go into interviews honestly believing I will like my interviewee because, dammit, that's what nurses are supposed to be like.

Granted, there are the few bad seeds that just for whatever reason pissed me off. But, statistically, they're few and far between.

Yesterday I was part of a "discussion" because one interviewee actually complained that I was "rude" and "condescending". Yes, I admit I am those things on a daily basis but not to the nurses. They're our bread and butter. They're the reason we have a business. They're the reason I have a job.

Anyway, supposedly the interview was done in a very rude manner, to which I protested, excuse me, I got to ask maybe five questions, if that many (for the interview proper):
1. (Your) name, and how would (you) like to be called.
2. Employed? When?
3. Why did you go into Nursing?
To which Miss Thing said that she refuses to do the interview until she talks to someone else to clarify an issue for her.

Okay, if I was rude and condescending, then I have to be Kettle, because, whoa. Miss Thing has got the antagonistic part down pat.
Maybe it was the part where I repeated her demand to talk to another specialist, down to detail, including when she'd like to do the interview again, because I was not going to let her go without clarifying that she still has to go through the interview at a later date.

I can't believe I rendered overtime (we don't get paid for overtime) for this shit.

Mrs. Morgendorffer: (on the career test) Daria, what did you get? (sees the results) A mortician?
Daria: Yes. Apparently my lack of interest in dealing with the living makes me ideal for dealing with the dead.
Mrs. Morgendorffer: Really, Daria, you should be more ambitious.
Daria: You want me to start killing people to drum up business? Well, okay...
(Daria)
