last night (or, early this morning, if you want to be technical about it) i was listening to an mp3 cd i'd made recently, and of the 160+ songs, the few i really paid attention to were:
- shea seger's the last time
- paige 23's love you anyway
- cell block tango from the movie Chicago
- fisher's any way
- skunk anansie's secretly
- natalie merchant's kind and generous
- ben folds five's song for the dumped
- damien rice's cannonball
- letters to cleo's cruel to be kind
i was thinking it over, and thought, well. just in time for valentine's. except for natalie merchant, all the songs are for really screwed up relationships.
sigh.
i want to focus on Paige 23. I first heard about the band on a cable channel called Now, which could be UK-based. i went to the band's website (as Now told me to), and look. downloadable songs. the first song of theirs i went nuts for was kissing. then dark. now i am very loyal to Love You Anyway (for very obvious reasons, if you know me personally). love the bass line. love the lyrics. love the sentiment. I love the band. i have not loved a US-based band in a long time, and, well, it made me want to take a trip to New York, just so i can watch them perform. from feedback, and the live mp3s, i have a feeling they're as good on acoustic as they are when in a studio.
just take a listen. if only to Love You Anyway, you have to hear this band. i have written a lot of stories solely with Paige 23 as my background music.
Dylan did you lose yourself again?
Dylan did you lose your faith in love?
He said, this is not a game anymore
