to buy or not to buy

a few years ago there was a book that my cousin made me read. by "made" i mean he had it and i borrowed it and was ridiculously tempted not to give it back.

the book was Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman.

i cannot state what it was about the book that made me want it, that made sense to me, or why I wanted to have that story at my disposal for all time.

I never got around to actually getting my own copy, for reasons you would understand. i mean, there are other books, other videos, other records that demand my attention. and i've read the book, right? and neil gaiman's literature would be around for a little longer.

Then last -- no, wait, the week before that -- The other week I saw that Neverwhere has been turned into a graphic novel.

Thus the conundrum.

I'm plotting my resignation. Yes, for real this time. There's a plan and everything. So I'm saving up both for my momentary monetary backing, as well as a class I have signed up for.

So is it worthwhile wise to buy a $19 comic book? This is, of course, a question posed by the same girl who paid roughly the same amount for the Serenity DVD, one that can easily be bought at Cinema Square, and at the same time knowing that a Special Edition version is in the works.

But... it's a graphic novel. Of a story I've read. And I haven't even gotten around to getting myself a copy of Ultimate Spider-Man Annual #1, where Peter Parker/Spidey starts dating Kitty Pryde. But I love the story of Neverwhere.

God, Geek Alert.

You know what's going to happen, right? Either I buy the book, or screw my funding and just buy the comic book.

Yes, I'm insane.

Damn this self-inflicted poverty.

Buy it. You know you'll torture yourself and regret it if you don't.

Good luck with the resignation, hope it goes through.

For a person who has seen me not buy something I wanted and complain a week later when the thing is gone, you should know how this will eat you up.

How much is it? If that thing is reasonably priced and still around by your b-day I'll get it for you as your gift.

You will need something to "soothe" you after your resignation. Go buy the book. Books are necessities. It is also a tool for self improvement :-)
