I'm so behind on Agents of SHIELD I'm beginning to think I should just quit watching it altogether (especially now that BJ Britt's... not expected to return). Yes, yes, I know: twists! turns! everything is connected! Melinda May! Maybe it's a binge-watch kind of show (is it?).
But then the mid-season replacement happened. Now, I liked Peggy Carter well enough when she was the stand-in for many (many) women everywhere and touched Chris Evans's pectorals post-experiment on Captain America: The First Avenger, and I too was sad when he missed their date (oops, spoiler?), but I was never in the more-Agent Carter-in-the-MCU-please crowd. I was quite happy with the Black Widow, thank you.
But then, the one-shot. Then Agents of SHIELD. Then Lyndsy Fonseca getting cast as the best friend, and Enver Gjokaj being added to the mix. Then Hayley Atwell apparently beating up everyone and everything on set, and Emma Thompson backing her up on the set of their movie discouraging any kind of weight loss program the producers wanted to instill, and now I have another favorite British actress.
[sidebar: Rosamund Pike is an Oscar nominee. I'm gutted Emily Blunt isn't, and she should've been the pride and glory of Edge of Tomorrow instead of Tom Cruise, but Into the Woods is reportedly kind of a mess.]
So, Agent Carter. It's kind of my new favorite thing. It's so good and so much fun that I'm actually willing to forgive the show for including Chad Michael Murray in it (although I have admitted on Twitter how much fun it is to see him typecast and going back to his douchebag roots). Apparently Marvel's only producing eight episodes of this awesomeness, so... sadness (but that can still change, so... hope?).
It's not flawless, obviously, because one of the main complaints is that there doesn't seem to be black people in the late-1940's in New York City with speaking parts; "surely sexism wasn't that bad back then"/number of male cast members being greater than female cast members (for a show with a female lead); and, you know, Chad Michael Murray, but come on: Peggy Carter. Peggy Carter being awesome. Peggy Carter being British.
And Jarvis.
After the cut, the Marvel one-shot, which you only would have seen if you have the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray disc.
