Dear New Directions (or Rachel/Kurt/Mercedes),
I know, I know. Some of you (Rachel) are thinking, not a big star yet, and already getting weird messages from people you don't know. Well, hear me out.
A quick recommendation: quit the Glee Club. Sure, it's called New Directions, and your faculty moderator seems to be the caring sort, but here's the glitch: None of the former stars of McKinley High's Glee Club has moved on to become a big star.
Think about it: you've met April Rhodes (alcoholic and former homeless mistress), Bryan Ryan (failed cruise line performer) and your teacher himself, Will Schuester (teacher). These were the star performers of yesteryear.
Sure, April looks like the adorable (Tony and Emmy Award winner) Kristin Chenoweth, and Bryan Ryan looks like the awesome NPH, but, come on. Clearly being the star of McKinley High's singing group doesn't work out in the long run.
To be fair, it may not just be McKinley High. Early on in the season, the term "Lima Loser" was mentioned, and... it just might be true (Phyllis Diller notwithstanding).
Is the location just not conducive to raising stars? April barely got out of Ohio, and Bryan got out only to end right back to where he started. And Will just plain never got out.
Or is it really just the place? Because, sure, McKinley High doesn't make its star performers continue on in high school for up to five or six years the way Mount Carmel's Vocal Adrenaline does. But look at Shelby Corcoran: one (nine-month) stop in Lima, Ohio, and now she's a failed actress coaching a high school glee club.
(By the way, I know I've expressed joy in that Shelby is Rachel's birth mother, but if those Glee writers take it back and be even more Machiavellian than I expected -- The Prince was required reading by the Glamazons -- I am not going to be happy.)
Okay, I don't want any of you to leave New Directions. I just want some proof that McKinley High's Glee Club has some successful alumni.
