So of all the Buffy alumni, Alyson Hannigan's the only one with a proper career nowadays (CC, you can't be a character actress when you're basically playing the same character across different TV shows), thanks to the awesome that is How I Met Your Mother.
Now, Britney stunt-casting aside, this show is solid in so many ways. The overall narrative warrants long-term viewing, but you can also sit down for an episode and still find it funny. The cast is just plain funny, either on their own standalone storylines or as an ensemble (and, really, a cast that includes NPH is a win). The writing does not pander to the lowest common denominator, but it's still good viewing when you just don't want to think anymore.
Did I mention NPH?
When the show started, I read somewhere that it was geek heaven, with Doogie, Willow and a Freak all in one show. Well, yes, and the casting in itself is a stroke of genius, without the publicity burnout the cast of Friends went through not soon after the second or third season. And whoever rescued Cobie Smulders from The L Word casting limbo deserves kudos.
Lately TV comedies just aren't as funny as they used to be (30 Rock excluded, because Tina Fey is a goddess), and TV in general just seems to be the same thing recycled ad nauseam for most network programs, but with HIMYM, there has to be some kind of light at the end of the tunnel. There has to be shows as good as 30 Rock and HIMYM just waiting to be produced. Right?
So, seriously, network execs: ABC already took away Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone. Please don't take away How I Met Your Mother. (30 Rock seems to be safe for now, but you never know...)
After the jump, NPH does Les Miz.
Because, you know, any cast that can make something as serious as Les Miserables funny just deserves your respect and attention:
